Love the New School of Marketing Podcast?
Let’s be honest and upfront, because you know that’s what I’m all about. Podcast reviews are super important to ...
Hey, welcome back to the new School of Marketing podcast. I'm Bianca McKenzie, and this is the place where we break down marketing strategies that actually work without the overwhelm. Before we dive in, I want to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land I live and work on, the Palawa people of Lutruwita.
I pay my respect to the elders, past and present, and acknowledge the deep connection they have to this land, culture and community.
All right, let's dive in and make marketing work for you.
All right, today I want to talk about something that every business owner experiences at some point,
and that is the feeling like you have to do everything alone.
And I know that marketing alone can feel overwhelming. It can feel frustrating and exhausting.
I, even as a marketer, I'm familiar with the, you know, staring at a blank screen, not sure what to post.
And I know from a lot of people that I mentor that, you know, they wonder if the strategies are actually working.
You're doing all the, all the things, like, all the things. But, you know, are you actually hitting the marks? Is your engagement low? Is it high? Sometimes you just don't know, do you?
Leads aren't coming in and it just, it just feels hard.
And I know that when you have support,
everything changes. We know that, right? Like when we have support in different areas of our life, things change. When we have support at home, whether it is, you know, from the grandparents helping look after the kids or having a cleaner to take some of the heavy lifting away.
It is the same with business and it is the same with marketing. When you have support, everything changes. And in terms of marketing, that means that when you have a plan and you have a clear direction,
you stop second guessing yourself because you actually get feedback from someone or a group of people who are in the same boat, they're on the same journey,
you actually see progress because you have accountability to follow through.
So in this episode, I'm going to be talking about why marketing alone feels so overwhelming.
The biggest benefits of marketing with support and just simple ways to build a community that help you grow faster. Because when we do things together, really things change.
So if you're tired of doing things alone, keep listening because,
yeah,
you're not the only one. And this episode is for you.
Okay, let's start by talking about why marketing alone is so hard. And I see business owners struggle with this all the time. And this is why,
number one, you have to figure everything out yourself.
So you're constantly asking yourself, what should I post? Where should I focus?
Is it even working?
And you're basically not getting any guidance, you're not getting any feedback. You're kind of stuck in trial and error mode, but you kind of can't get out of that and that slows down your progress.
Another one that I see all the time is people second guessing every decision. And I know why this happens.
And, like, it's totally normal. Like, I'm definitely not having a go at you here. I'm just trying to point out, you know, why it is so alone or why it is so hard when you're doing it alone.
So second guessing yourself. Like, you're constantly asking yourself, should I post more reels?
Should I start a podcast? Do I need to run ads? This is what I help people with all the time. And they are second guessing themselves. Without someone to bounce ideas off of, it's just easy to overthink and do nothing.
And even as a marketer, I do this as well. Like, you know, we constantly see other people do things, especially for scrolling, and it makes you think, should I do this, should I do that?
Should I do?
Sometimes you actually just need someone to bounce ideas off of.
Another reason why I think marketing alone is so hard is it is really hard to set to stay consistent without accountability.
And marketing isn't about one great post. It literally is about showing up consistently. And that doesn't mean that you have to post like 5 times a day, but you do need to have some regularity.
You need to have the same kind of message. So staying consistent is quite hard. When you don't have accountability,
when no one is checking in on you, it's really easy to kind of go, I'll do it later. And you know that later never comes.
Another reason is that you might be feeling like you're yelling into the void. There's so much noise out there. You post content,
but you kind of have no low or no engagement. You don't really see leads coming in, no sales coming in. It's like you, you are literally shouting into the void and nothing is happening.
And because you're working alone, you don't have anyone to give you feedback on what's working or not. And then, you know, you go into that vicious Cycle of, you know, second guessing yourself and all of that kind of thing.
So if this sounds familiar, if you've been feeling stuck, it's not because you're not good at marketing,
it's because you're doing it in isolation.
So let's talk about how that changes when you have the right support. So what happens when you stop marketing alone and you actually surround yourself with the right people?
Everything becomes easier and I'm going to tell you why. The first thing is that you get clear direction.
There's no more wondering, what should I do next? A community or a coach that can actually help you find, focus on what actually matters so that you stop wasting time on the things that actually not moving you forward that are not moving the needle.
They're not really making any progress.
And once you stop doing that, yes, free up time for the things that will move the needle.
So that's the next one, you make faster progress. So instead of guessing and hoping, you actually get feedback that helps you improve and refine your strategy so you make fewer mistakes, you get more wins and you get quicker results.
And I'm saying mistakes.
Look, everybody needs to make mistakes. You have to. It's like with marketing, it's one of those things that if you don't, you actually don't know what is going to work.
And even if you kind of get it right from the start,
you might still need to do like little tweaks and changes to see if you can get better results.
So I don't actually like to use the word mistakes because I don't think there is such a thing as mistakes. I think it's just, you know, it is a bit of trial and error.
But then what you need is someone to go, okay, well this is what is happening.
Go focus on that. And go focus on that. Okay.
Also when you do have support, you stay consistent. Even when you do feel stuck, when you are accountable to others, you're way more likely to follow through. And this is where I often get stuck.
I sometimes spark things for later, but I am in a small mastermind group and throughout the week we all post our to do's and you know, the things that we're working towards in our group and I have to say that when I do that, I follow through with it.
So weekly check ins, co working sessions, strategy calls, they all keep you on track so that you don't fall off the wagon.
And trust me, it is super, super powerful when you do stay on track, when you have your vision and you know what you're Working towards.
Also when you do it with others,
you stop overthinking and you start taking action.
So instead of thinking about marketing, you actually do the marketing. You get the confidence to show up, you get the confidence to sell. You grow your business without hesitation. It's like one of those things, it's like, you know,
muscle memory as the more you do it, the easier it gets and the more results you see, the more confident you get. And this is like, you know, it's that flow on effect, you keep going.
So when you're surrounded by the right people, marketing doesn't just feel easier, it actually starts working and then it does feel easier and it's like a circle which is great.
So how do you get support? Let's talk about that next.
So if you're realizing, okay, I need more support with my marketing, here are some ways to make it happen.
Firstly, find a community of like minded business owners. Surround yourself with people who actually get it and who are also working on their marketing. And if you can't find that, you might have to start one of those groups.
It doesn't have to be like a big group, just a few people, but you can look for Facebook groups, you can look for masterminds, membership communities where you can actually ask questions and get feedback.
I have one of those groups and I'll tell you a little bit more about it at the end.
The other thing is join a marketing focused accountability group. Marketing isn't just about learning, it's about doing. And this is super, super important. You can learn all the things you like about marketing but until you start applying really is like it doesn't, it doesn't matter, it's not going to do anything for you because every audience is different,
every product is different. So like whatever you learn, even if you copy someone else's system or someone else's marketing, it's not going to work for you because there are nuances and you have to learn what's going to work for you.
So it's about doing. Being in an accountability group helps you show up consistently and, and actually stay on track. So,
and then another one is get expert feedback on your strategy. If you are not sure what's working and what's not, get feedback from someone who's been there, who knows what they're looking at, a coach, a marketing strategist, they can help you refine your approach so that you can focus on what works.
So my key takeaway for you is that marketing is easier when you are not doing it alone. And this is exactly Why I created the new School of Marketing Business Club because having support, having guidance, having accountability,
it makes all the difference.
So, quick recap.
Marketing alone means most of the time that you stress about what you need to post, about what's working, all of those things, you're overwhelmed, you're second guessing yourself. Whereas marketing with support means that you get clarity, you get confidence and you get consistent growth.
You don't have to do any of this business journey alone. I know sometimes we feel like we need to because,
you know, when you first start out, money might be tight, those kind of things, but that is actually often keeping you stuck and not moving forward.
And sometimes we actually do need to invest in ourselves and in our journey.
I'm not saying that you have to go outside of, you know, something that you can't afford or something that's uncomfortable.
Sometimes you do need to get out of your comfort zone. Yeah, this is not about like pushing marketing, things to say you're gonna fail if you don't, blah, blah blah, none of that kind of thing.
But, but doing things together and getting support actually does help you move faster, get more confident, that kind of thing.
So surrounding yourself with people who can help you stay on track, refine your strategy and keep you accountable will really help you move forward. Here's my challenge for you.
