Let’s be honest and upfront, because you know that’s what I’m all about. Podcast reviews are super important to ...
Hey. Welcome to the new School of Marketing Podcast. I am Bianca McKenzie, and this is the place where we break down marketing strategies that actually work without the overwhelm.
Before we begin, I want to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which I live and work, the Palawa people of Lutruwita. I pay my respect to their eldest, past and present, and I extend that respect to to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples listening today.
Let's dive in and make marketing work for you.
All right, let's talk about one of the biggest challenges that we as business owners face when it comes to marketing,
and I'm going to call it it's staying consistent.
If marketing feels like a constant uphill battle, you're definitely not alone. I am feeling, feeling you. I'm feeling you so much on this. I hear this all the time. I don't know what to post.
I start strong, but then life gets in the way. I'm doing everything, but I'm not seeing instant results.
Does that sound familiar?
The truth is, marketing is not about big, flashy efforts. It's about showing up again and again and again in a way that works for you.
And I want to chat about how we can make marketing easier, how we can make marketing more manageable and more sustainable. Because I want this to work for you. So let's do it.
Let's start with why consistency actually matters so much in marketing. And it's because marketing is a long game. It's not about quick wins. Just like going to the gym, you won't see results after the one workout, but over time, the effort compounds.
So think about the brands that you love.
Are they actually showing up once in a while? Or are they consistently in your feed, in your inbox, in your mind?
Because here's what happens when you're consistent. People start to recognize your brand.
They trust you because you're always there providing value.
And when they're ready to buy, you're the first person they think of.
But I get it. Staying consistent is easier said than done. So let's talk about what makes it so hard. There are three big reasons I see business owners struggling with consistency.
The first one is you don't know what to post.
And I'm familiar with this one. Trust me, if you're constantly staring at a blank screen thinking, what should I post today?
Of course marketing is going to feel overwhelming.
So the fix for this is to have a plan. When you have a content strategy, you never have to guess what to post. So that's the first one. The second one is that you're trying to do too much at once.
And I see this all the time. Business owners trying to post on every social platform,
emails, videos, adds, all the things.
The fix for this is to simplify, pick just two to three platforms and focus on what works. More is not always better. So we need to cut things out, simplify things.
The next one is that you're not seeing instant results. And I am very familiar with this one. If you post for a week and you expect a flood of sales, you to be disappointed.
Marketing is about building trust and momentum over time.
So what you need to fix this is that you need to set small trackable goals. So instead of grow my audience as a goal, try making it about engagement. So engage with three people per day and your small wins are going to over time, compound and actually lead to big results.
So now that we looked at why consistency is so tough, let's talk about how to make marketing easier to actually stick with it.
So instead of waking up and wondering what to post, you need to plan your content in advance.
Make a content calendar. You don't need anything fancy. You can create a simple Google Doc or a Tello board with your topics for the next month or even the next week if you know you want to start smaller.
Also, one of the best ways to stay consistent is to batch your content. Pick one day a week to create and schedule your posts, because that way you're not scrambling on a daily basis.
It literally saves you so much time when you batch create your content. I do this, and I'm actually six weeks ahead.
I know I get a bit excited. Um, so batch your content and instead of setting vague goals like grow my audience, make them specific and achievable. So set small but realistic goals.
For example, one of your goals could be engage with three people per day or post three times a week. And, you know, use a content calendar, you know, a schedule to do that.
Another one could be send one email per week. And if you plan ahead, you're not constantly scrambling to get stuff out there. Also, small goals keep you motivated and moving forward.
And marketing is so much easier when you're not doing it alone. I know sounds weird, but if consistency is something that you struggle with, being in a group of like minded business owners can actually help you stay accountable.
It helps you get fresh ideas and really keep that momentum going, make it a snowball whoosh down the mountain.
I find that I work much better in a group and go to get stuff done days and things like that. I just focus on things more. So these four steps, planning ahead, batching content, setting small goals, and getting support.
They are the keys to making marketing a habit instead of a struggle.
All right, let's wrap up. Marketing is a long game and the businesses that stay consistent are the ones that win. You don't need to do everything. You just need to show up consistently in a way that works for you.
So focus on small, repeatable actions instead of trying to do everything at once. And most importantly, give it time. Give it time. Start taking these steps. Start taking actions. The results will come, but you do need to give it time.
So here's my challenge for you. What's one small marketing habit that you can commit to for the next month? Is it going to be posting three times a week? Is it going to be engaging with three people a day?
Is it going to be sending one email per week? Pick one thing and it doesn't have to be one of those three. Pick one thing, just one, and commit to it for this month.
Commit to it and then watch how the consistency pays off. All right, if this episode resonated with you, let me know. Send me a DM on Instagram or comment on this episode's post and tell me what marketing habit you're focusing on.
